Our story began in the early 1990s, when Aleksander Matatov arrived in New York City with little more than a suitcase and a deep love for fine timepieces. He didn’t have a storefront or staff — just a booth on Canal Street, a sharp eye for detail, and a reputation that quickly spread: honest deals, fair prices, and a passion for horology that felt contagious.
Day by day, one watch at a time, Aleksander built something more than a business. Collectors began to seek him out. Fellow dealers turned to him for advice. And slowly, that modest booth transformed into a name people trusted.
Through decades of hard work, JD Watches became a fixture in New York’s luxury watch scene. What started on Canal Street now thrives on 46th, just steps from the Diamond District — a space where timeless craftsmanship meets modern service.
Today, the company is led by his son, Robert Matatov, who grew up immersed in the world of watches and now steers the brand into its next chapter. What was once a behind-the-scenes wholesale operation is now a full-scale retail experience — offering a curated selection of the world’s most sought-after timepieces to clients around the globe.
